Illustration by Louis Icart for Faust (1943)
SKU: 00583 Category: Uitgever:

Louis Icart was a French painter, graphic artist and illustrator. Icart’s painting style was based on the French masters of the 18th century, such as Jean-Antoine Watteau, François Boucher and Jean-Honoré Fragonard. His drawings were influenced by Edgar Degas and Claude Monet.

By the late 1920s, Icart was very successful both artistically and financially with his publications and his work for major fashion and design studios. He began to describe the shift from the fussy fashion of the late 19th century to the more sinuous and shapely world of art deco from the early 20th century. The popularity of his etchings peaked during the Art Deco era. Icart depicted life in Paris and New York.
