Johann Christian Leopold was a German engraver. He was the son of the engraver and publisher Joseph Friedrich Leopold. Between 1710 and 1750, the publishing family published numerous charts and cityscapes. After his father’s death, he took over the publishing business. Even more than his father, Leopold made a name for himself as one of the most important engravers in the first half of the 18th century.
Traeiectum Mastricht is the Latin name for the Dutch city of Maastricht and literally means “crossing by the Meuse.
