James Basire was a British engraver. He is the most important of a family of engravers and is known for being apprenticed to young William Blake.

Basire’s work can be found in museums and galleries around the world, including the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Christchurch Art Gallery in New Zealand, the National Library of Australia in Canberra, and the National Portrait Gallery in London.
