Adriaen van Ostade, a 17th century painter, engraver and draughtsman, mainly captured the daily life of ordinary people such as farmers and craftsmen. Also people who at the time often had questionable reputations, such as quacks and lawyers. This etching depicts a cheerful village scene.

The Rijksmuseum has a similar etching in its collection.
