Pieter Dupont was a draftsman, watercolorist and painter, but above all a graphic artist and eminently important for the development of modern printmaking. His first etchings were done in a smooth style on zinc. In 1903, he became a professor of graphic arts at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. He died at the age of only 40 in 1911.
